THE DUSTMAN'S DREAM OF HOME! - British Pathe

Take a look at this video about Oheka Castle when it was a resort for the New York Sanitation Department.

I LOVE this video!!! And so sad. The dustmen got it at a point where the gardens were at youthful maturity, and gorgeously maintained, and ironically, the place never looked better.

This is where I timidly confess that the modern habit of appending a description to the name of an estate, widespread though it now is, causes my sensitive soul pain. Oheka, as the Kahns called it, not Oheka Castle as the current owners style it. Likewise Biltmore, not Biltmore Mansion, etc etc.

There, that's off my chest :-)

Thanks for the video. I'm on my second viewing

It's is also a shame that many of the great estates when built, had mature landscaping brought in, but by the time the trees and shrubs were really getting settled the estate was often gone or had out lived its hey day.
