"Overland House" The Estate of George Rose at Old Westbury, Long Island, NY.

George Rose Mansion, Old Westbury, NY.
Long Island from a period of 1880 to 1930 had one of the highest concentrations of estates and palatial homes on them. Sadly many have been destroyed such as the George Rose estate at Old Westbury, New York. Designed and built circa 1910 by architects Hoppin & Koen, it was typical of many of their designs, with high wings that seem to compress a tight columned center capped by a boxy third floor. Always a house that I was intrigued by and once went searching for it's remains, but they had long been covered over by new homes and backyards.
