Castle Howard /Brideshead

While I try to stay on this side of the pond with this blog, I will occasionally post a few things about some of my favorite European mansions. In fact many of the American " Gilded Age" mansions were inspired by the great European homes. Today I found a great new blog, "Hooked on Houses" with a posting about Castle Howard, Yorkshire England. While in existence for hundreds of years, it has attained its current fame from the mini series filmed there in the 1980s, Evelyn Waugh's, "Brideshead Revisited".

Please click below for Castle Howard links.

Beautiful, just beautiful.

So many English country houses have been destroyed...Thousands to be precise. This website lists them all http://lh.matthewbeckett.com/lh_complete_list.html

It's heartbreaking to see some of the treasures lost. "Worth Park House" is one of my favorites, so large and imposing.
