|The Grandes Dames by Stephen Birmingham|
The Grand Dames, by Stephen Birmingham is a very informative book about the great ladies who ruled Gilded Age society. For all of those Whitemarsh Hall fans, there is a great chapter on Eva Stotesbury and her battle to be accepted by Philadelphia society.
While New York Society and the world of Mrs. Astor's 400 are always thought to be the toughest nut to crack, but with enough money and show, it was easier to break into than Boston or Philadelphia Society, where money could be a determent.
